Frigiliana Finally Classified as Conjunto Historico.
After nearly 50 years since first applying for its classification as a historic site, Frigiliana has finally been registered as a ‘Conjunto Historico’ historic heritage site.
After Frigiliana’s second application in 2010, the Junta de Andalucia has agreed to listing the village in La Axarquia in the general catalogue of the Historical Heritage. The deal includes the Barribajo and Barribarto districts and the Castillo de Lizar.
A delighted Frigiliana mayor said “Luckily, it is the people of Frigiliana, many of whom are foreigners, who are most keen to preserve the village”.
With reference to the local Town Hall’s continued efforts to stop local residents installing satellite dishes he added “What is going to happen is that this classification will oblige us to make even more efforts in that respect”.
